Thermo Scientific Nalgene Beta Radiation Shields are constructed for use on the laboratory bench top when working with dangerous ß--emitting isotopes. Made of 3/8-inch (9-mm) thick acrylic, this shield will stop beta radiation within 6.9mm and thus provide as much safety as a shield that is ½” thick.
Transparent and free-standing, the radiation shields provide clear views for the user at all times with the added convenience of working on the bench top. Shields offered here include the Angled-Bench Top or U-shaped Bench Top. An angled top permits the contents of tubes located behind the shield to be viewed from the top, while protected from radiation exposure. A 12-inch (305-mm) deep base adds stability and a large flat work surface, and minimizes the risk of "hot spots" on the lab bench. They adhere to the OSHA Standard 29 CFR Part 1910.1030 for use as protection against bloodborne pathogens.
Each model includes safety labeling with standard red radiation symbol. Radioactive waste should never be stored on the bench top for long periods of time and should be properly disposed of. Guidelines for the disposal of isotopes should be strictly followed to avoid exposure.
