The labelling of frozen vials is a significant challenge for many bio-pharma research labs, cell banks, biorepositories and other laboratories involved in the biopreservation of samples in liquid nitrogen and ultra-low temperature freezers. The problem is that the vast majority of cryogenic labels cannot stick to already frozen containers due to the solidification of their adhesive upon contact with a cryogenically frozen surface. Simultaneously, vials containing biological materials cannot be warmed-up due to the temperature sensitivity of their content. In most cases, the re-labeling of these vials has to be done below -70ºC so as not to compromise the viability of the frozen cells.
GA International CryoSTUCK® Cryogenic Labels for Frozen Vials are thermal transfer labels for the identification of already frozen vials and tubes at -80°C. They are coated with a special adhesive that does not solidify upon contact with a frozen substrate. The frozen vials can be labeled seconds after their removal from cryogenic storage and can be placed back into liquid nitrogen or a freezer for further conservation.
CryoSTUCK labels can be printed with all major brands of thermal transfer barcode printer such as SATO, Printronix, CAB, Zebra, Intermec, Datamax O’Neil, Citizen, Cognitive, Brady (selected models) and others. Recommended thermal transfer ribbons: RR-Class resin ribbons. They also accept writing with permanent markers.
For proper functionality, the labels must have some overlap (0.25” or more) through the lateral transparent part(s). To maintain adhesive strength, avoid touching the adhesive side of the label.
