Students begin the study of carbohydrates by constructing a 3-D model of a water molecule with the same hydrogen to oxygen ratio as a carbohydrate. They will further learn to construct models of three monosaccharides; two disaccharides; study isomerism, and construct a simple starch molecule by dehydration synthesis.
