Models

Sublevel Orbitals of the Atom Models (Quantum Models)

Using specially designed components to simplify rather abstract concepts, students can assemble their own spatial 3-dimensional models. Demonstrate the position and number of electrons along the x, y, and z axes; and the orbitals of the sublevels of the major energy levels.
As models are assembled, students review the four quantum numbers and Pauli's Exclusion Principle. Identify the number and position of electrons in various atoms. Includes a quantum numbers information chart on each worksheet so students can build the model starting with the s1 orbitals. Components are color-coded to distinguish between s and p orbitals. Helps to reinforce how properties of a family of elements on the Periodic Table reflect the similarities in the electron configuration of their atoms. Includes materials for 12 students; reusable.
