All units feature an upright stainless steel collector chamber that speeds and simplifies defrost. Hot water may be poured over the collector coil, or collected ice may be allowed to melt overnight. 6L Console models have hot gas defrost. For standard systems, the condensing module cools the stainless steel collector coil to –50°C. Cascade models have two refrigeration systems used in series to cool collector to –84°C and are ideal for samples with low eutectic temperatures.
LCD shows system vacuum in mBar, Pa,or Torr and temperature in °F or °C. Also displays system operating parameters, set-up parameters and alarm messages. Alarm flashes red and beeps when an abnormal event has occurred. LED vacuum and temperature "waves" provide at-a-glance display of relative system vacuum and collector temperature. Automatic start up initiates the collector cool down and vacuum pull down at the push of a button, or use separate switches for manual refrigeration and vacuum. Moisture sensor prevents refrigeration or vacuum start-up when moisture is detected in the collector chamber area. Vacuum control valve maintains setpoint vacuum level.
Cabinets are brushed stainless steel and white, epoxy-coated steel. Side mounted, retractable 9" collector drain line. Side mounted power switch and rear-mounted electrical receptable for vacuum pump connection. 3/4" OD vacuum connection All models include 3 feet of 3/4" ID vacuum hose and two clamps. Rear-mounted RS232 port.
4.5 L systems have permanently installed 10-port stainless steel drying chamber. 6 L systems require separate purchase of a drying chamber and are available with other built-in options including:
Purge Valve
Purge valve isolates the vacuum pump from the freeze dry system. Pump life may be extended by purging small amounts of contaminants from the vacuum pump oil. In the event of a power failure, the purge valve helps prevent vacuum pump oil from back streaming into the collector and contaminating samples. Available only in console models.
Shell Freezer
Pre-freezes samples for more efficient lyophilization. Fast-Freeze flasks rotate in a low-temperature heat transfer solution to coat the interior of the flask with a thin sample shell, which facilitates efficient vapor flow from sample to condenser during lyophilization. SS compartment accommodates flasks up to 1200 mL. 1/4 hp CFC-free refrigeration system is capable of cooling heat transfer solution to –40° C. Available built-in to console models, or as a separate benchtop unit.
Stoppering Tray Dryer
Pneumatic diaphragm inflation mechanism stoppers containers on all three processing shelves. Microprocessor-controlled temperature ramp and hold programming from –40°C to +40°C. Memory stores 5 programs. Three probes monitor sample or shelf temperature. 3/4HP CFC-free refrigeration system and 1000W heater ensure efficient heating and cooling of fluid medium circulating through channels in the shelves. LCD shows system and probe temperatures, vacuum, and program information. Accommodates bottles, ampules or flasks from 75 mm (using all three shelves) to 196 mm (using one shelf) in height. Available with 6 L benchtop or console models, or as a separate unit.
