This kit teaches the basic principles of antibiotics, bacterial resistance, and susceptibility. Utilizing a bacterial strain, students learn the effects of antibiotics; and visualize bacterial sensitivity and resistance to supplied antibiotics. Filter paper discs are impregnated with a specified antibiotic on the surface of an agar plate containing microbial cells. Inhibitory effects of different antibiotics are analyzed on selected bacterial cells to determine which antibiotic is most effective in treating a bacterial infection.
