AP Biology Kit, Lab 6B: Restriction Enzyme Cleavage of DNA and Electrophoresis

Use a variety of enzymes to restrict, separate and identify DNA and DNA fragments. Students will plot a standard curve of measured migration distance against each band’s known actual base pair size. This data can then be used to extrapolate the size of unknown fragments based upon migration distance in the gel. Students will learn about restriction enzymes, creating recombinant organisms, and genetic engineering. Kit includes ready-to-use pre-digested DNA and safe DNA stain. Principles and practice of electrophoresis are also explained. The 6L x 3W x 1 3/4H" acrylic electrophoresis tank and 200 mA power supply listed below are required for use. Neo/Sci.
